of Surma Chasham Arya: In Surma Chasham Arya, published in 1886, Hazrat Mirza Sahib has recorded the proceedings of his debate with a notable Arya Samajist of Hoshiarpur, one Master Murli Dhar. This man had himself invited Hazrat Mirza Sahib for a debate about the teachings of Islam and Arya Samaj. When the debate began, however, he was so dumbfounded before Hazrat Mirza Sahib’s powerful arguments that he deemed it prudent to beat a hasty retreat on some pretext or the other before the debate was completed according to the prearranged rules. Hazrat Mirza Sahib, on the other hand, truly wished for the comparison between Islam and other religions to be made clear and accessible to all seekers of the truth. So he published the proceedings of the debate in the form of a book titled Surma Chasham Arya. He included a preface to the book in which he expounded on the relationship between the laws of nature and miracles, and explained the difference between what is ‘against reason’ and what is ‘beyond human comprehension’. This discussion is so beautiful that the heart of a wise man bows before Hazrat Mirza Sahib’s superior knowledge and understanding. He has put forth such powerful arguments in support of the rending asunder of the moon, which is one of the miracles of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (on whom be peace and the blessings of Allah), that even an atheist has no option but to accept it. He has extolled the greatness and glory of the Holy Prophet Muhammad in a manner that is unparalleled. And he has refuted the false Arya teachings of denying the creative power of God, limited salvation and transmigration of souls so strongly that not a single Arya Samajist has been able to frame a convincing reply to his arguments, despite the fact that Hazrat Mirza Sahib announced a reward of Rs. 500 for the person who would do so. In short, Surma Chasham Arya is a masterpiece of Hazrat Mirza Sahib’s knowledge, whose real excellence can only be gauged by reading it.
